Brit's Brain

The endless thoughts that bounce around in my brain

“I’ve been waiting for months, waiting for years, waiting for you to change.
Aw, but there ain’t much that’s dumber, there ain’t much that’s dumber
than pinning your hopes on a change in another.
And I, yeah I still need you, but what good’s that gonna do?
Needing is one thing, and getting- getting’s another.”

~OK Go, Needing/Getting

“Captain Smith and Pocahontas
Had a very mad affair
When her daddy tried to kill him,
She said daddy, no, don’t you dare
He gives me fever,
With his kisses, fever when he holds me tight
Fever I’m his Mrs.
Daddy, won’ t you treat him right”

~Fever, Ella Fitzgerald.

Every young child is told from the start

To shoot for their dreams and follow their heart.

“Settle for nothing less than you want”

Is all that they hear, is all that they’re taught.

So these children go on to accomplish their best

They work hard in school and ace every test.

They discover their calling and their means to pursue

And so far so good, they’ve done all they could do.

But then comes a time when things aren’t so clear

A time where there’s

Happiness

Newness

And fear.

They discover love and all of its glory

All of its excitement

Comfort

And story.

They realize, however, there’s a risk they must take

For every love has a chance for mistake.

So they take the time and the risk is weighed

Along with the good times and memories made.

And after this thinking is finished and through

They decide that this love is real and it’s true.

But wait.

Something’s wrong,
What’s going on?

Apparently this decision wasn’t theirs all along.

Those original people who encouraged them to fight

For all that they wanted, say it’s not right.

They don’t like this love and they want it to end

Can’t be a partner, can’t be a friend.

They’ve gone back on their words that they said at the start

They say listen to them and ignore the heart.

Studying Up

So 2011 is coming to an end.. A year that’s been quite amazing.

Important things I’ve learned this year:

~Don’t leave a bag full of baby food unattended at the airport

~Holyoke St. Patrick’s Day parade never ends

~College graduations are extremely long

~Never have a 12-hour layover in Iceland

~Surprisingly, a lot of places in Paris don’t accept visa cards

~People in the UK are awesome

~Painting dorm rooms over the summer is the best job ever

~Never continue a relationship because you’re afraid to break up

~Sarcasm and towel whipping is surprisingly a good pick-up combo

~Love is the greatest feeling in the world

~Never hold back important feelings

~Do want YOU want to do with YOUR life

~Having faith in people can be a weakness, but can also be the best strength a person can have

Another year of learning and, as always, I will take all that I’ve learned and apply it the best I can to my future adventures. Here’s to hoping 2012 is another amazing year of amazing new lessons.

Control.

When I was 17, I did what people told me

Did what my father said, and let my mother mold me

But that was long ago

I’m in control, never gonna stop

Control, to get what I want

Control, I got to have a lot

Control, now I’m all grown up”

After watchin Glee this week, can’t get this song outta my head…

You’re just too good to be true.
Can’t take my eyes off you.
You’d be like Heaven to touch.
I wanna hold you so much.
At long last love has arrived
And I thank God I’m alive.
You’re just too good to be true.
Can’t take my eyes off you.

Stop doubting.

If you want things to go well, they will.

If you want things to change, they will.

Don’t settle for an idea being just a dream, go for it.

If you put your heart wholly into something that you truly want to do, you will succeed in accomplishing it. No doubt.

Have faith in how you want your life to be. Have faith in your dreams.

I fully believe that you can accomplish anything you want, as long as you have the drive and self-discipline to do so. Nothing is impossible.

I’ve doubted my future long enough, and I’m finally going to start listening to what I’ve been trying to tell myself. I will do what I love. I will be successful because whether or not I make a huge paycheck, I’ll love what I’m doing and that is the success I want.

This is the time of the year where everyone creates new year’s resolutions and make promises to themselves that the upcoming year will be waay better than the year before.

I figure 2010, a year that has been both the best and worst year of my life, will be pretty hard to trump, so I’m not expecting to. My new year’s resolution is to continue what I’ve been trying to achieve every year:

I will stay positive through whatever tribulations I face,

I will continue to work hard in school and not lose sight of my goals,

I will try my very hardest to reach out more to other people,

Make new friendships and strengthen the ones I already have,

I will not be ashamed to be myself.

Like I said, these are goals that I’ve set for myself every year, and I think this past year was a huge step towards reaching them. I learned a lot about myself this year, I did things I didn’t think I could do, and I made decisions I didn’t think I could make. So with that said, I’m excited for the new year and what is has in store for me. I think it’ll be a good one :).

The Cleaning Process

So my room is a pigsty… clothes and pottery pretty dominate my walking space… so I’m dedicating today to cleaning!

What will actually happen:

I’ll analyze the situation.

Eat lunch.

Go back and re-evaluate, thinking about where everything will go.

Facebook.

Start making piles of things in accordance of where they will be going (closet, cellar, etc).

Get itunes up and running for some cleaning music, possibly go online to search for some new music I remembered I wanted to download.

Start putting things where they belong.

I suggest this process to procrastinators everywhere! It gets stuff done, but fulfills your procrastinative* needs.

*original Brittany word. See Brittany’s dictionary in an earlier posting.
